2007 Paul Dolan Vineyards Chardonnay

Mendocino Cty, CA
made with organically grown grapes; 13.5% ABV
$5 at the Berkeley, CA, store on 9 May

2007_PaulDolan_ChardThis wine, made with organically grown grapes, and with a label in English and French, definitely looked interesting.  The wine inside turned out to be excellent for the price.

It shows ripe fruit of yellow apple, pear, melon (white rind and a little cantaloupe),  some lemony acid, and toasted almondy oak.  It’s nicely structured and delineated.  While showing some aged character, it’s not over the hill.    Like a white Burgundy not too long ago, something about the fruit is somewhat French in character, although I’d say it is mostly Californian.  The only thing I can say against it is that its smooth structure falls apart a little when it warms, so drink it at a normal chilled wine temperature.
