I liked the 2010 Mercer Estates Chardonnay and Riesling, and I probably would have grabbed this as soon as I saw it if it hadn’t been a dollar more even though all three wines were listed for $15 on the Mercer web site. After recommending this wine to another customer looking for a decent, inexpensive SB, I thought I ought to try one myself. It’s pretty tasty, but I would of course have been happier for it to have also been $4.
The wine has grassy gooseberry nose with some light pear. On the palate, there’s more of the same, with yellow melon close to the white of the rind leading to a gentle minerality. Its fruit is delicately ripe with good acid of the above plus a little lemon. While it’s quite tasty and pleasant, and I’d guess Lim13 would like this a lot better than the 2008 Chalk Hill SB he recently reviewed, it’s not enough to get me really excited. Still, Thumbs Up.
