I could find nothing about this label on the internet. Label says only that it’s 100% California Zinfandel and that it’s “crafted especially for Global Wine Export to our specifications from some of the most famous Zinfandel vineyards in California”. It also says, “Vinted and bottled by Claoro Estates Wines, Napa, CA”. I Googled Global Wine Export and found a site out of Oregon that apparently ships only Oregon wines. I also found Global Wine Exports and they list Cafaro Cellars as one of their wineries, but no Caloro Estates. Another mysterious GO wine.
Clear medium ruby/purple with a violet rim. Varietal Zinfandel spiciness in the nose with blackberry and raspberry aromas. In the mouth, there are more spicy, briary blackberry/raspberry flavors with a bit of saline quality too. Soft and round in texture with light tannins and gentle acidity. Toward the fruity end of the Zin spectrum, but far from being labeled a “bomb”. I kind of like it because it’s softer and more integrated than many of the Zins I’ve had lately, but it’s a little vegetal in the finish and the saline “thing” is a little weird. And $6.99 for a non-vintage GO Zin is a bit pricey by my standards. Drinkable is as far as I’m willing to go.
