2011 Marques de Caro Tempranillo, Valencia, Spain $4.99

Silverdale, WA    13% alc.    (Purchased on 10/22/13)

IMG_1283Opaque dark purple; has a sort of roasted tomato, tar and blackberry nose…somewhat dark and brooding and slow to fully open up.  First thing that hit me on the palate was the fairly high, tart acidity.  Medium weight with light tannins and even though it’s rather dark, the flavors seem more red fruit based i.e. red and black raspberry, rhubarb and cranberry.  Somehow seems to lack fruit and flavor definition.  Should be a pretty decent food wine and it may even age well.  But for me, it’s just a bit too indistinct and ordinary.  Tart finish too.  Definitely old world style.

Hi Danielle. I’m sorry to hear about the closing of your local stores. I asked someone at GO corporate HQ, who said that Grocery Outlet unfortunately has no plans to re-open a store in AZ. GO has also closed its stores in the Los Angeles area. I don’t know why.

      Take care,
      BW

I know that the store in Fountain Valley (Orange Co.) lost their least and moved to San Diego if that sheds any light on the subject of why some stores close.

Just want to be clear too, Danielle…it wasn’t us that closed yours or any GO store. We’re totally unaffiliated with GO. We’re just folks who love wine and buy the GO wines out of our own pocket and review them, so you can decide whether ot not you’d like to give them a try. And like BargainWhine, I too am really sorry to hear that like L.A., there are now no more GO’s in AZ.
