After liking the Clearwater Creek 2007 Meritage a lot, I jumped at this wine. It’s also very good for the money, in a classic California style.
The prominent fruit is dominated by buttery yellow apple with a tinge of ripe pineapple, followed by complexities of lemony acid, a tiny bit of green apple, and a good amount of supple oak. On the first night, I often found it a little coarse or abrupt, finishing too quickly with oak or grape skin bitterness. On the second night, it was richer and better integrated, although still slightly rough on the finish. Still, if you like this style of Chardonnay, it’s very good for the price.
