Brilliant very pale straw. A bit sulfury in the nose…even more than an hour after opening. The typical green gooseberry aromas are there, but disguised beneath those slight sulfury qualities. In the mouth, it’s another story. It’s loaded with sweet gooseberry and grapefruit flavors. No residual sugar, just tons of sweet fruit. A bit grassy, but with pleasant tropical fruit flavors in the finish. Fans of NZ Sauv Blancs should enjoy this wine.
Seems Wine Spectator scored it an 89 for whatever that’s worth. (I’m not a WS fan.) Regular retail online is anwhere between $11-$15, so I don’t consider this a screaming GO deal for NZ Sauv Blanc, but it’s tasty and may be plentiful…as this is a fairly large producer.
