NV La Crois Du Pin Brut Rose’, France $8.99

Silverdale, WA    11% alc.    (Purchased on 12/20/13)

IMG_1352I would not have purchased this wine if not for the 20% off sale…the fact that my sparkling wine inventory is currently the only thing low in my cellar…and the fact that I’m a sucker for pretty pink sparklers in clear glass bottles.

Very attractive pale pink color and an immediate foamy mousse head upon first pour.  Nice steady stream of tiny bubbles, but it slows down rapidly.  Has a somewhat gaseous, lightly sulfury nose that’s not particularly attractive.  Fair bubble in the mouth but restrained flavors with very faint strawberry flavors; lacking well defined fruit and just slightly less than bone dry.  Decent extract and mouthfeel, but very ordinary…and leaves a rather peculiar flavor in the mouth on the finish.  I checked on line…even found their uninformative web site, but couldn’t figure out where in France it comes from or what grapes are used in production.  No more for me, thanks.  You can likely find a much tastier pink Spanish cava (like Segura Viudas) for around the same price.

We found this wine to be lacking flavor almost to the point of tasting nothing.

There is a blanc de blancs by the same producer that is most certainly better.

I did pickup 6 bottles of the Duc De Valmer NV Blanc De Blancs Brut (imported by Patriarche – $6.99 – Oakland) which is probably the best sparkler we’ve had from GO since the Babot, which was pretty consistent.

Also of note, this Pink Bubbler and its sister wines are/were $1 less in Oakland.

Your first sentence pretty much sums it up, weinish. And I did buy a bottle of the Blanc De Blancs at the same time. I seriously doubt I’ll get to it before the end of the sale today…my expectations on its taste are low.
