2010 Tarkettle Road Old Vine Zinfandel

Lodi, CA; 13.5% ABV
$5 at the Richmond, CA, store on 17 Mar

2010_TarkettleRd_LodiZinMy review yesterday said that that Spanish Grenache for $5 was kind of Zin-like but better than any $5 Zin at the GO.  Today, noting that there were a couple $5 Zins I hadn’t tasted, I picked up this bottle.  Indeed, the Spanish Grenache is much better.

This wine is not bad.  It has flavors of ripe jam of raspberry and redder blackberry, with a gently syrupy texture and a slightly stewed character to the fruit, and perhaps a little prune or raisin.  However, to my taste, this wine is distinctly more simple and less balanced.
