2010 Greg Norman Malbec

Mendoza, Argentina
13.5% alc.
$5 at Skyway, WA (purchased 3/18/14)

20140324_180712_resized (2)I went out to the Greg Norman website and it looks like there is a major label change so that may be why this wine is showing up at GO. I’ve had a few Norman wines that have been hit and miss but generally decent.

Ruby red in color, lighter than most Malbec’s I’ve had. Toasty oak nose with blue fruits and smoke.  The palate at first was blueberry and currants, later pulling out some cranberry and vanilla.  Lots of caramel on the finish and as it opened up and became a bit dominant.  Pleasant enough to be very drinkable for $5 and I think some people will like this, but too much oak without enough other substance to balance it out for me.
