Excusez-Moi 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

California, bottled by Michel Schlumberger
$6 at the Richmond, CA, store on 4 Apr

2012_ExcusezMoi_CabSI got pulled into this wine with its silly front label by the “bottled by Michel Schlumberger” on the back label.  On this site, we’ve liked nearly all the wines from them so far, so I went for it.  IMO, this one is pretty good, but doesn’t live up to the others.

On first opening, I poured out half of it into a 375ml bottle and stoppered it with little air.  The first half, I thought was a little rough and unbalanced until after 90 – 100 minutes of air.  Then, it become a good, classic California Cabernet, showing black currant, cherry, and a little red currant.  My only complaint is that the fruit was slightly candied or cough-syrupy.

The second half, however, had developed a sort of spoiled raisin flavor and had overall gone out of balance, although it was not undrinkable.  I guess especially if you’re going to drink it all in one evening, it’s pretty good wine for the money, but I can’t give it a ringing endorsement.
