2011 Gaucho Andino Mendoza Malbec, Argentina $4.99

Silverdale, WA    13.8% alc.    (Purchased on 5/14/14)

IMG_1494Clear medium garnet/ruby. Very fruity nose of cherry cola and raspberry plus a bit of smoke.  In the mouth, the fruitiness continues with perceived sweetness on the front of the palate and more red fruit…cherry, raspberry, red plum with earth, tobacco and licorice.  Medium body with good acidity and enough tannin to give it structure, but seems to thin out on the finish.  Not particularly complex, but a decent quaffer that should be fine with grilled burgers and meats, though I would not recommend it with sweet ketchup based barbecue sauces.

I also recently reviewed the Gaucho Andino Chilean Carmenere.  Of the two, this Malbec was my favorite.
