Carneros, CA; 13.5% ABV
$6 at the Oakland, CA, store on 30 Oct
This wine caught my attention with its nice name and label, and Carneros designation. The nicely aromatic wine showed flavors of lightly caramelized (or even a little oxidized) fruit mostly of yellow apple, some pear and lemon, with slightly funky oak close to the caramelized nature. With its medium solid and elegant build, it strikes me as what was probably a pretty nice Chardonnay earlier in its life, but it is getting a little old.
The next day, the rest of the wine was more forward and integrated, but overall neither better nor worse. This could be a decent buy if you are especially fond of aged Chardonnay, but otherwise it’s only Drinkable.
