2012 Stama Lodi Dry Rose’ of Zinfandel, CA, $4.99

Tacoma/6th Ave.    13.3% alc.    (Purchased on 10/25/14)

IMG_1846From the Kapiniaris family who also brought us  the 2007 Zany Zin that I reviewed two years ago.  Brilliant pale salmon pink.  Nose is rather closed and shows very subdued aromas of lemon, watermelon and rhubarb.  In the mouth, it’s pretty much bone dry, but has enough fruit to come across as just off-dry.  The flavors show more lemon and rhubarb along with some underripe strawberry and raspberry.  A light weight, austere, but refreshing rose’ with very nice acidity and a bit of mouthfeel from skin contact.  Most definitely a food wine with chicken or salmon, simply prepared…or maybe a decent match with mild pate’ on baguette slices.  If you’re looking for a paler-colored, drier rose’, this one might work for you.  Apparently sells for $13.95 at the winery, so this strikes me as a decent buy.

We actually had this wine, this summer. Didn’t buy it from GO. Spent $9.99 I think. Did you notice any petrol-like aftertaste? I have that in my notes (doesn’t say if it was strong or slight). I can’t remember if we had it with food or not either.
