Napa Valley, CA; 14.2 % ABV
$5 at the Oakland, CA, store on 18 Dec
This is the last of three Sauvignon Blancs I got a couple weeks ago. As it turns out, it’s the best. If you like this kind of wine, I hope there’s still some at a store near you.
The aromatic nose smells of green melon, yellow citrus, and some yellow and white flowers. The palate shows these flavors in a nicely complex, structured, and crisp wine. It reminds me of the recent Ziata SB, although, as best I can recall, this is not quite as nuanced.
The next day, the flavors had shifted to be more yellow, including perhaps some yellow apple, but the wine is still nicely balanced and delicious.

Hey, BW…you didn’t really say…dry or not? Crisp but fruity? Crisp with sweet overtones (like apples?) Just trying to get a read on it. Sounds like it has possibilities. Any petrol?
Hi PW. Thanks for asking. Yes, totally dry. Fruit balanced between green and rip, that seemed riper the next day. Hmmm…. hold on a sec. It has some bitterness of melon rind / grape skin, but I would not say petrol. Although not quite as good as it was, it’s still pretty tasty on the third day.
I found the Xanthos SB by Balius in San Jose and I like it as well as the Ziata, sells for $16/18.00, I’m getting 6 more. The Ziata disappeared overnight.
