Banshee 2012 Chardonnay

Sonoma Coast, CA; 13.4% ABV
$6 at the Richmond, CA, store on 10 Feb

Banshee_2012_ChardAfter Lim13 liked the Banshee 2011 Pinot Noir, I jumped on this recent arrival.  Although I do find it slightly odd, it’s pretty tasty Chardonnay for the money.

The bottle is closed with a long, solid cork (i.e., not pieces glued together).  The wine shows moderately rich flavors of lemon, yellow apple / pear, golden kiwi, a tinge of green apple, and some grape skin / yeast / funky oak.  The flavors are not terribly well integrated in this young wine, but the wine is agreeably complex, delineated, and substantial.  I find that yeasty oak aspect a little off-putting, but it doesn’t detract tremendously from what is otherwise a nice wine for the money, and I suppose it’s possible the wine is still just a little young.  Middling Thumbs Up.

Yes, the bottle for this Chardonnay is 750ml. We nonetheless finished it off last night without too much trouble. 🙂
