Robertson, South Africa; 13.5% ABV
$6 at the Oakland, CA, on 31 March
On the first night, I barely liked this wine at all. I thought it needed about 2.5 hrs of air before showing darker plum, cranberry, black pepper, and oak. The fruit was tangy / tart, with flavors like bad candy, in a medium body. I guess I can rate it barely Drinkable, since it’s not specifically flawed, but I found it pretty bad.
A couple days later, I thought the body became slightly more textured with more red cherry, but the flavors were similar, including what struck me as preserved sour plum (ume boshi), and my evaluation remains the same.
