Sonoma-Loeb 2013 Sauvignon Blanc

Sonoma County, CA; 14.1% ABV
Produced and bottled by Sonoma-Loeb Wines, St. Helena, CA
$6 at the Richmond, CA, store on 11 Dec

Sonoma-Loeb_2013_SauvBlancI was attracted to this bottle by the nice label and its appearance of being from a winery, not a negociant.  It is indeed quite good.

The wine tastes of yellow melon, lemon, sweet yellow lime, and a little gooseberry, with a nice minerality.  While the fruit is pleasantly ripe, there is still plenty of acid, just short of what I’d call “crisp,” and a little balancing grape skin bitterness.  For a fairly substantial Sauvignon Blanc, the wine is actually rather elegant and somewhat delicate, probably better drunk on its own, or maybe with white fish.  Anyway, this is a good wine for the price.

The next day, the wine is more smoothed out, more fruity and less minerally, still nicely elegant, complex, and slightly delicate.

Saw this at the San Leandro store today and was tempted. Now I’ve seen this review (sounds like everything I like in a Sauvignon blanc), I’ll pick up a couple tomorrow.

      This ^^^

Opened one this evening and yes, elegant is the word. Just a hint of gooseberry, so not like a Marlborough or Dry Creek offering. Just very classy. I’m going to design a meal around this. It will involve broiled halibut cubes and scallops on kebab skewers and saffron rice. Pairing perfection (to my taste).

      You’re all invited !!!!!

Good description. The wife and I liked it quite a bit with our salmon. To provide perspective, we like crisp, dry whites and don’t care for heavier, oakier ones. We tend to stick to Sauv Blanc and Pinot Grigio most of the time.
